Episode 61: We’re Still Here!

Ain’t no April Fools Day bullshit here, we are UP.

The show still lives on, fear not. We got together and punched out an extended, 3-hour show for anyone who’s cool enough to listen.

The newsroom came first, where GPC detailed BB10 and CES 2013, among other things. Then we discussed some of the better stories from the celebrity world in the past few months, including Adele slamming Chris Brown in front of thousands of their peers. Next, we reviewed both Dead Space 3 and Resident Evil 6, the latter of which is easily one of the worst games of all time. Our last segment is a bit of a grab bag, but centers loosely around updating everyone as to what’s been going on with the show lately.

Episode 60: 2013 Unchained

Welcome to the new year, 2013, as seen by Spiny Shell Radio.

This week, DJE and GPC are joined by Jake and Andy as we recap our New Years Eve celebrations. In addition, we’re also proud to bring back the OG version of the Newsroom, condensed down into one segment. After that, DJE and GPC review (spoiler-free) Quentin Tarantino’s new movie ‘Django Unchained,’ followed by GPC’s top ten films of 2012 (condensed down into just a couple minutes- read the real thing here). Lastly, we discuss our various resolutions for the new year.

Episode 59: Christmas ’12

It’s Christmas once again! Or at least it was when this show was first broadcast. But never mind that, let’s get to it.

In our yearly Christmas special, DJE and GPC both imbibe Bailey’s and other holiday treats heavily as we review what happened at GPC’s annual holiday open house. As has happened every year, hilarity ensued. We also sneak in a review of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,’ which we had the (dis)pleasure of seeing in HFR (aka 48fps). Catch all this and more as we play Christmas music throughout- don’t sleep.

Episode 58: Holiday In Hershey

What’s up everyone? This is the first of three episodes that are going to be posted this evening. It may have taken me forever to get these up, but look on the bright side: now you get over 6 new hours of silliness all at once.

This time, we broadcast live from Hershey, PA, on December 14th. We go over new developments in the world, talk about how awesome Hershey is and what we’ve been doing there, and listen to The Peddlers’ amazing oldie “On a Clear Day.” Shocker, GPC had to be the one to introduce everyone to this silly song. And, as this show takes place during the last few weeks of the year, our playlist is made up entirely of songs we loved from throughout 2012.

Episode 57: Leftovers!

Whats good SSR nation?!?

In this second episode of the week (that of 11/18/12), the full crew is reunited for the first time since September 9th!! What do we fill the resulting two hours with? Personal updates and, far more importantly, sampling select Thanksgiving leftovers while listening to Christmas tunes, of course! Believe us, you do NOT want to miss this episode. Also joining us this time is Pancho- thanks for your “hard work” man.

Episode 56: The Holidays Are Coming

It’s Thanksgiving time!

Man, this time of year just makes me happy. I hope you all enjoy tomorrow: eat well, drink well, watch the Skins/Dallas game, and make merry. Oh, and listen to this new episode while you’re at it.

As we’re only doing shows when at least 2 of the SSR crew are in town together, we’ve re-tooled the format to fit this schedule better. Instead of one Newsroom segment, we expand that to cover the entire show, with one segment each devoted to recent big headlines in tech, gaming, movies, and music. It’s basically just a way for us to talk about all the best things we would have, were we still doing weekly shows. And of course, throughout the show we weave in stories and updates concerning our own lives, as well.

Enjoy, and don’t forget to join us the Saturday following Thanksgiving (that’s 11/24/12) for another live show.

Episode 55: Fall Into Beer

I love Fall, don’t you? It’s beautiful outside, the leaves are changing color, the NFL is in full swing, Halloween and Thanksgiving are getting closer and closer- and it’s one of the best times of the year to drink beer. In this week’s episode, we do just that.

This week, GPC and Brazy have the pleasure of being joined by show regulars Armani Exchange and the Canuck, who come along with us on our beer voyage. Things get underway with the Newsroom, where GPC reveals the news you’ve all been waiting years to hear: Hollywood is making a Mr. Ed movie!! (I still can’t believe that…) Next, we get down to the awesome business of sampling & rating 6 different Oktoberfest and Pumpkin beers, perfect for Fall-time consumption. Lastly, we revisit old topics such as Brazy’s willingness to engage in, ahem, questionable activities for dirt cheap.

Note: We apologize for the less-than-stellar audio quality this week. We’re still learning how to live without our producer/sound engineer DJE controlling the board. These issues won’t linger, guaranteed.

Episode 54: Carrying On

What’s good people?! If it’s Friday, that means fresh SSR. This week, the boys were joined by two of GPC’s college crew, Justin and Caitlin, who were able to lend their talents to the show for a spirited round of “Name That Celeb,” as well as the rest of our usual debauchery.

It was old school rap week on SSR! As always, things started off in the Newsroom, where GPC and Brazy give you all the latest news from the tech, gaming, movie, and music worlds. Next came the aforementioned “Name That Celeb” challenge- one which really came down to the wire. Following that, we dove into the scandals and rumors surrounding the younger members of Britain’s royal family (specifically Kate Middleton and Prince Harry’s nude photos), then wrapped things up in the way that only four professional, mature twenty-somethings can: by discussing Harry Potter.

Episode 53: Auf Wiedersehen

Alas, all honeymoons must end.

That’s the reality we’re faced with during this week’s episode. Not that we make a big, sappy deal out of it, but don’t get it twisted: the show, in it’s current form, has ended. DJE has moved out of town to live with his new bride, and soon after, Brazy will be leaving NoVA as well. Stay tuned to the site here for updates on how we’ll be handling things in the near future.

Until then, enjoy this episode (and a couple more we’ll squeeze in before Brazy leaves, too)! Things start off in the Newsroom, as always. Then we give you three segments of potpourri, in the style that only SSR can. It’s a great send-off, trust us.

Episode 52: One Year

We made it! It’s official, Spiny Shell Radio now has a year’s worth of material. And believe me, coming from this group of donks, that’s really something to be proud of.

This week, continuing the trend of integrating GPC’s college friends into the show, we welcomed Mike Axton onto the airwaves, and hilarity ensued. We started off with perhaps the weakest Newsroom we’ve ever done- it was so poor, in fact, that it wound up being quite humorous. The next three segments were so beautifully random, that to catalogue them here would be a disservice. Just listen, and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
