Episode 51: Drunken Memories

Preparing two groups of friends to meet each other…. Man, can that be stressful or what? As Jim Gaffigan would say: “Don’t be thrown by my British accent.” Fortunately, this meeting of groups was nothing like that at all. Rather, it was a whole lot of fun and totally care-free!

We started things off with the SSR Newsroom, then GPC, DJE, and Brazy welcomed Justin Ball, GPC’s old college roommate onto the program. He didn’t disappoint, giving everyone plenty of insight on Glenn’s formative days at UMW. In between sessions going down memory lane, DJE led the group in a rousing game of “Name that Rapper,” which was less one-sided than you may have thought. All in all, it was a fantastic episode- a great way to welcome a new personality onto the show and prepare you all for our 52nd episode spectacular!

Episode 50: Wedding

How perfectly did that work out? Episode 50, a BIG silly for us, just happens to be when we discuss DJE’s wedding! Maybe the world isn’t such a shitty place after all.

Things began as they usually do, with The Newsroom. Then we previewed two of Soulja Boy’s latest tracks, “Beat It Up” and “Private Dance,” which are as bad as you imagined when you read “Soulja Boy.” After that, though, came a 2-segment breakdown of our very own Erin Wallace’s nuptials, which took place this past Monday at Meadowlark Gardens. A great time was had by all, and we don’t miss a single detail in our coverage (even a few things that probably could have been omitted…)

This one has to be dedicated to the best new husband & wife team in the 50 fine states: Erin and Vanessa. Congratulations guys, I know you’ll have a fantastic life together.

Episode 49: Between Thunderstorms

Well, well, well… We’ve finally arrived at the big event, the magic moment, the colossal ceremony: DJE’s wedding. In all likelihood, by the time you read this DJE will be officially hitched! How crazy is that? And while we definitely talk about the wedding this week, most of our coverage on this historic day will take place next episode.

And why is that, you ask? Because this week we’re too busy talking about Vegas!! That’s right, the SSR crew and other groomsmen took on the Nevada desert and came out on top! Well, maybe not top, but somewhere in there. Yes, this week is so stuffed with recap from our L.V. bachelor’s party that there ain’t room for shit else, save for a quick post-mortem on “The Dark Knight Rises” (we told you we’d give our full (spoiler-y) thoughts on it after everyone got a chance to see it, remember?). But other than that, it’s all Vegas, baby!

As if that weren’t enough, Spiny Shell Radio is thrilled beyond words to welcome OG cohost Tom Brazy back into the fold! He’s been away in China for the past year, but now he’s back, raring to go and sporting long, sexy, chestnut locks to boot. Don’t miss out on Brazy’s triumphant return (marred slightly by his throat condition). Welcome back dude!

Episode 48: An Olympic Bachelor

What’s. Up. PEOPLE?!?

Sorry this has taken us so long to post, but you’ll find out why during this Friday’s show- trust me, if you ever want to catch an episode live, it’s this one.

We were in Vegas last week, so the posting of 7/27′s show was unfortunately pushed to the side, but have no fear: here it is, in all it’s glory. We start things off in the Newsroom like usual, then we give you the inside dish on “K-Stew” and Robert Pattinson’s breakup (trust me, it’s funny). Next, we dive into our most anticipated events in the (then) upcoming London 2012 Olympics. Finally, DJE gives us the 411 on Snoop Dogg’s recent transformation into Snoop Lion (while giving us a preview of his new track) and we both hype our Vegas trip. (Like I said, don’t miss this week’s LIVE show- we’ll be going over everything we did in a state where prostitution is LEGAL!!)

Episode 47: Dark Vegas Rises

Episode 47, god damn! How bout them apples?!?

It’s Batman week, everyone! The movie America has been waiting for since 2008 is finally here, and SSR is right on the case with an early review for you (and a spoiler-free one, at that). First comes the Newsroom, then our Batman review, followed by a discussion about online multiplayer games and the (potential) dangers they pose, and finally a joint hype session over our upcoming trip to Vegas for DJE’s bachelor party. It’s gonna be SILLY.

Episode 46: Healthy Eating

This week DJE and GPC do the dirty work for you, as we sample the newest offerings from the “big four” of the fast food world so you need only order the best.

As always, we set things in motion with the Newsroom, then comes the 2012 Spiny Shell Radio Fast Food Roundup, which depending on your tastes will either sound really appetizing or totally disgusting. Regardless, however, the outcome cannot be disputed: this test was very tough to get through. After that, we give you a review (with mild spoilers) of Hollywood’s latest blockbuster reboot, “The Amazing Spider-Man,” then finish things off with some classic audio of Stephen Hawking reading one of the more racy scenes from E. L. James’ “50 Shades of Grey.” Hint- it’s fucking awesome.

Also: be sure to check out all the pictures from the Fast Food Roundup on our twitter!

Episode 45: Unspecified

We promised it would happen, and here we are: men of our words. Spiny Shell Radio is now error-free for all who want it! We are 45 shows deep with our little experiment here- how crazy is that?! 7 more until we’ve got a year’s worth of content! Let’s GO.

This week was all like: Newsroom first, then a discussion about the different “Labels” of Johnny Walker, and after that DJE (poorly) reviewing Pixar’s latest smash hit, ‘Brave,’ and finally a grab-bag segment where anything goes. Episodes like this are really cool, because despite lacking a clear, cohesive direction, we still bust out and drop them classics.

Episode 44: Frustrations Persist

….hey, everyone.

A great man once told me: “life sucks, then you die.” Or put more lightly, “it’s always something.” Well, truer words have never been spoken.

After weeks of frustration over our non-working broadcast server, DJE and I finally fixed things up good and proper. We put in the hours the night before this show, and all was set for a glorious return to our usual format. We had taken every precaution to make sure that things would work flawlessly for you guys. What we didn’t count on was the weather.

Yup, the weather. Out of (quite literally) nowhere, mother nature fucked us right where we sit. A storm that only happens about once every 4 years left our entire tri-state area without power. It’s called a derecho. This particular derecho killed 6 people in our area alone, after it tore through Northern Virginia with wind speeds of 71mph. So please, forgive us.

Even still, we got a chance to get in most of the show, so I guess it’s not a total loss. As always, we gave you the latest stories that matter to you in the SSR Newsroom, then we were joined by show personality Pancho. Perhaps Mexicans are bad luck, because soon after this our power went the way of the dodo bird.

Sorry that this episode plays low- it’s a mistake that won’t be a problem (to be honest, I was pretty sure it was happening as the show was taped, but never mind, we know what the issue was). And as much as I hate having to say this yet again, please join us next week for a full, complete, total, finished, whole, un-not-done show. Really, I promise they’re coming.

Episode 43: It’s The 90′s Again Baby!

Wassup?!

By the way, that phrase was made popular in the 90′s. Actually, I just did some research, and half my vocabulary came from the god damn 90′s. Phrases like “Sup B?”,  ”My bad!”, and “What up dawg?” all became popular in the 90′s! Hot damn. Check out other phrases here if you have nothing better to do: http://www.inthe90s.com/generated/terms.shtml

Moving right along, GPC and DJE deliver your weekly summary of entertainment news. Here are the highlights:

Things heat up as we review the new Ridley Scott movie Prometheus. Don’t worry, we don’t spoil anything because this movie isn’t the dogshit we normally have to review here on SSR. In other words, go see it! Next, things are all over the god damn map but then we finish strong with our musical influences of the 90′s starting with the classic debate: “Who was hotter, Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?”

Also, don’t forget to check out a mutual friend of SSR: Mac Hedrick’s site www.toesocial.com! A site dedicated to everything FEET. Show them some pic love if you just got a pair of brand new kicks or caught a case of extreme elephantitis, it’s all good!

Episode 43: Shit

Sometimes, hard work gets you what you want….

This is not one of those times.

In a recent effort to bring you closer to our SSR family, everyone was hard at work these past 7 days concocting our very own internet radio server! What was supposed to be a flawless show last Friday turned out to be the most crushing and catastrophic event in SSR history. There were so many technical issues, and bottom line is we are sorry if you tried to listen to the show! To top it all off, this podcast episode is plagued with horrible gain issues that took me a damn hour to hammer out. But don’t get it twisted, the new server is back and better than before. 6/15/12 will be the best show this world will know, don’t miss it!!

And now, here you have it! Comin’ to you in old school podcast form is our 43rd super-short episode! We are joined this week by our mutual Canadian, The Canuck. GPC and DJE rapid fire only the best entertainment news around. Then we dive right into our review of the coveted E3 convention, and damn, we talk about everything. And because our opinions are the only right ones, you should listen pronto. We weren’t live and we got started so late, this episode clocks in at just over an hour.

Don’t SLEEP
